The people behind GumCareCompanion
After graduating Law School in the Netherlands, Sophie has supported Johan van Dijk in the development of the first prototypes of the Fluxion. In the meanwhile she got accepted to the Japan Prizewinners program in Tokyo Japan after which she started her commercial career with Shell. After ten years of corporate life in commercial roles, working in several challenging countries leading new business development opportunities, Sophie joined the INSEAD executive MBA program.
During this program she took the opportunity to further develop her passion for entrepreneurship. In addition, it was the perfect timing to continue with the commercial development of the Fluxion considering the conducted clinical study and considering that her father Johan van Dijk had retired.

Charlotte graduated as a dental hygienist at the University hospital in Groningen, the Netherlands in 2011. After graduation she has been working in the oral surgery clinic in the Tjongerschans hospital in Heerenveen, in the Netherlands. She is working closely together with the oral surgeons treating mainly patients with periodontitis and peri-implantitis.
Charlotte is also working at a large dental clinic in Emmeloord, where she provides general, orthodontonic and children’s treatments. In addition to treating patients, she also is responsible for running the clinic and the team.
In 2017 she was approached by Dr. Johan van Dijk and Dr. Wouter Kalk to provide support to the Fluxion Pilot in the Tjongerschans hospital. The results of this pilot has been published in the TP of December 2017. Download publication
She is increasingly supporting the development and roll out of the Fluxion. Going forward Charlotte will focus on the application and functionality of the Fluxion in the dental practices with her great expertise, energy and drive.
Wouter W.I. Kalk | MD DDS PhD
Member Advisory Board
Wouter Kalk (1971) is registered as Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and certified oral implantologist (NVOI) since 2005. He studied medicine from 1989-1995 and dentistry from 1997-2001. During the period between these studies, he was employed as medical officer at the Dutch Royal Navy. He defended his thesis in 2001 after clinical research on the oral component of Sjögren’ syndrome. Also in implantology, he has published a variety of scientific papers.
He holds OMF practice in Tjongerschans hospital in Heerenveen since 2006. He has been assigned for nearly two decades as medical advisor for the Dutch association of Sjögren patients, regarding oral issues.
As regular instructor for NobelBiocare, he has given several courses and masterclasses for guided surgery (NobelClinician).
He is a dedicated clinician with special interest for pre-prosthetic surgery, oral implantology and guided surgery, beside the oral medicine. In the fields of Sjögren’ syndrome and oral implantology, he has given many lectures and courses in the Netherlands and abroad.
Since 2010, he works as oral implantologist in his private practice (CBI) in Heerenveen.
Guy Goffin | D.D.S
Member Advisory Board
Guy graduated as a dentist in 1975 from the KULeuven (Belgie) and had a quite particular professional career: private practitioner, chairman of a Working on Oral Prevention, leader of an epidemiological survey. He finally spent some 24 years at high level positions in the oral care business unit of Procter & Gamble. Guy is a honorary member of the EAPD (European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry) and VVT (Verbond der Vlaamse Tandartsen).
After retirement in 2014, Guy joined the Dental Innovation & Translation Centre (DITC) within the Dental Institute King’s College London (UK) as Visiting Senior Implementation Fellow and focuses on delivering worldwide implementation of ICCMS in dental practice.
He is a regular member of IADR and ORCA and recently got involved with the GumCareCompanion on a consultancy basis. He advises GumCareCompanion’s management and liaises with the researchers for delivering best in class data to support the launch of the Fluxion in the professional world.
As a member of the Advisory Board, Guy will continuously support management and ensure scientific evidence is the backbone for a successful launch of the Fluxion with professionals.
Commercial and Marketing
Martin Polman is an educated para-medic (Bc 1982) in the Dutch Royal Navy and was active in healthcare, before his start in the medical device industry. Martin is a seasoned manager, experienced in Sales & Marketing positions in several companies, both national and international.
His scope covers the medical fields of ophthalmology (91-99), cardiology (99-07), critical care (08-10) and dentistry (since 2010). He has been co-responsible for the introduction of world’s first products in glaucoma, pacing and hemodynamics. Besides, Martin is an active member in relevant industry associations, twice as a board chairman.
Sales & Operations
Liesbeth is an experienced Sales Account Manager with over 30 years of experience in the dental industry. Trained as an all-round dental technician she started her career at a dental laboratory. After 10 years she moved to a sales position in a commercial dental company. There, she found her passion and developed her sales skills.
The last 8 years she worked at Nobel Biocare, where she was able to delve into specialties such as digital dentistry and implantology. With much dedication and great people skills she has build an extensive network of dental specialists.
She now starts with a lot of enthusiasm for a new adventure at GumcareCompanion, and is committed to making the launch of the Fluxion a great success.
Harm De Vries | Evoluweb
Multimedia Design and Advertising
In 2018 Harm was approached by Sophie van Dijk to give advice about the design of the GumCareCompanion website. Ultimately, he became responsible for the design of all the Advertising, both online and in print.
Harm graduated in 1994 as an interdisciplinary artist at the Minerva Academy in Groningen. Subsequently, he ended up in Amsterdam to work as a graphic designer at VVV-Amsterdam. He then switched to the communications department of the tax office in Utrecht where he worked as Art Director.
After 3 years he returned to Groningen where he was employed as a Senior Art Director for various Advertising and Multimedia agencies. Here he worked, among others, for Philips, L’Oréal, Nashuatec and Holland Casino.
In 2004 he went into business for himself under the name Evoluweb. Evoluweb is a full-service advertising and design studio that works and has worked for, among others, ABN-AMRO, FC Groningen, Westo, Ordina, Saxion and Optima Farma.
In Memoriam | Johan van Dijk †
Johan van Dijk PhD was a periodontist and a major expert in the field of gum disease. He was a co-founder of the first Dutch periodontology practice. After completing his study of dentistry, van Dijk joined the staff of the Department of Periodontology in the Dentistry Program at Groningen University.
At the same time, he ran a small general dental practice. Van Dijk earned his PhD in the Netherlands in 1979. In 1983 he founded in Groningen the first referral practice for periodontal care in the Netherlands.
He gained the necessary experience to establish this practice through further education University of Oregon Dental School in Portland Oregon, USA and by conducting many clinical studies in the field of periodontal care.
From 1983 to 2010, Van Dijk worked as a periodontist and implantologist. He is the inventor and co-founder of GumCare BV.
The Fluxion apparatus is a step change in looking after our gums.
